-- What should have been in the LZH file -------------------------------------
Moire.PRG The screen saver.
BoinkCfg.PRG The config program.
ReadThis.1st This file.
The filenames are shown in upper/lower case for your convenience; they're also
stored in the .LZH this way. All the names will become upper case when you
extract files from the archive, though.
If any of the files are missing, please leave a message wherever you got this
file stating that the .LZH is incomplete. A complete version can be obtained
from me if you send a blank disk to the address below.
-- What this is --------------------------------------------------------------
In the tradition of snazzy screen savers (like my earlier Boink and Faze screen
savers), this is MoireSave, a MONOCHROME screen saver.
-- Freeware notice -----------------------------------------------------------
MoireSave is Freeware. You can give it to anyone else you like, as long as:
1) You give them the programs and this file, all completely unaltered.
2) You don't charge for the copy, except for reasonable charges to cover
the cost of the media (disk). This charge should not exceed $10, or the
nearest equivalent in the local currency.
-- Using the programs --------------------------------------------------------
MoireSave requires a monochrome monitor to use. If you don't have a monochrome
monitor, try using Boink or Faze--they work in color. If I get the idea there
is sufficient demand (i.e. write to me!) I may adjust MoireSave to work in
color.
Put Moire.PRG in your AUTO folder and reset the computer. If you aren't in
monochrome, it won't install itself, so you won't have to worry about it if you
switch monitors often (like I do). Once installed, if you don't press a key or
move the mouse for two minutes, the screen saver will go to work, drawing moire
patterns on your screen. Press any key or move the mouse to restore the
screen.
The BoinkCfg program, obviously enough, is the same config program used for
Boink and Faze. Just double-click on it. When you run it, from any
resolution, you'll see a small alert box with three buttons on it: "Config",
"Disable", and "Exit". "Config" will bring up the configuration dialog.
"Disable" will disable the screen saver completely; you'll notice the button
changes to "Enable!", which will re-enable the screen saver. And "Exit" will
turn on the screen saver and exit the program. (The screen saver will shut off
when you move the mouse or press a key, of course.)
In the "Config" dialog you will also find three buttons: "Time", "Boink", and
"Exit". Clicking on "Time" will allow you to set the time the screen saver
will wait before kicking in. Use the "<" and ">" buttons to change the time
displayed; click on the time itself when you're satisfied. "Boink" will bring
up yet another dialog, but it's only useful for the Boink screen saver. When
you exit from the "Config" dialog, you will be asked if you want to save the
configuration; click on "Okay" to save to \AUTO\MOIRE.PRG, "Locate" to find a
different copy of the program (or FAZE.PRG, or BOINK.PRG), or "Cancel" to abort
the save.
MoireSave consumes about 40% of processor time while it is active (and no
significant time while it's inactive) on an 8MHz ST. On a faster computer it
will take proportionally less time; those lucky souls who have Mega STe's or
even TT's will get a big boost. The biggest problem here is the line-drawing
speed... MoireSave draws 70 lines per second, and lines are not the easiest
thing to draw quickly!
One more thing. The "Disable" function only works if MoireSave was the last
program to install itself on the vertical blank interrupt. You can make sure
this is so by placing Moire.PRG _last_ in your AUTO folder.
-- Wassis dmj software stuff? ------------------------------------------------
I'll try not to be crushed if you don't know... ;-)
o Spc-3375 - The *BEST* 4096-color emulator for ST users! Displays STe-color
Spectrum pics (.SPC, .SPU, or .SPS) on an unmodified ST
o DMJ GIF - The best way to create a Spectrum picture from a GIF file.
Supports STe color.
o Sound Lab - Complete sample editing, recording, and playback. Lots of
features, plus FAST edit functions!
And don't forget to check out ReNameIt!, which renames file, folders, and
volume labels... in upper case, lower case, or extended characters... runs in
any res... as program, accessory, or TTP!
